Tips on the GO toll
- Find out in good time before your journey about the toll obligation in Austria and about the handling and function of the GO-Box.
- Don't forget: The toll applies as soon as you enter the toll road network! There are signs at the access roads indicating that tolls are compulsory.
- Take the opportunity to retroactively pay the toll (retroactively paying GO toll):
- within 5 hours and 100 kilometres at a GO point of sale.
- within 96 hours by telephone at the ASFINAG Service Center or online in the SelfCare portal (if you use a number of axles/category that is set too low or if you have incorrectly stored rate-relevant characteristics that require evidence).
- In the event of an incident: Pay replacement tolls on time and correctly. This will help you avoid the initiation of costly administrative penalty proceedings. In the event of administrative penalties, the authority responsible for your case will contact you. This authority will then be your contact for questions regarding the procedure.

We take your concerns seriously. Complaints about substitute toll claims are conscientiously examined. However, the payment deadline remains valid even in the event of a complaint.
Service and control management, toll supervision, enforcement centre
We monitor compliance with the toll obligation.
Automatic checks are carried out by control cameras mounted above the roads or by portable control devices that are relocated regularly. They monitor correct toll payment without interfering with the flow of traffic.
If the automatic control reveals any suspicious facts, an image of the vehicle in question is transmitted to ASFINAG's control centre (Enforcement Center) and checked. If the check shows that the toll was paid correctly, the image material is discarded. However, if the toll has not been paid correctly, the toll enforcement officer will be informed or the person registered as the owner of the vehicle will be requested in writing to pay a substitute toll.
Manual checks are carried out by toll enforcement officers: They check compliance with the toll obligation at traffic control points as well as in car parks, but also in moving traffic. The toll enforcement officer works closely with the Enforcement Center.

On the road for more safety
The employees of ASFINAG's toll enforcement body (Service and Control Management) are officers of public supervision. They are trained in training centres of the security executive (police) and sworn in by the district administrative authorities. They have service badges which they show upon request.
Around 100 people are on the road throughout Austria as toll enforcement officers. They monitor tolls and also provide advice, assistance and information (first aid, accident and congestion protection, retroactive toll payment, information, etc.).

The vested powers of enforcement officers
Toll enforcement officers are authorised to:
- stop motor vehicle drivers by means of clearly visible or audible signals (e.g. flashing blue lights, stop lights, illuminated lettering on the rear of the control vehicle);
- establish the identity of the driver and the owner of the registration;
- check the vehicle, the on-board unit (GO-Box) or the affixing of the vignette, the tachograph, the odometer and the EC control device;
- demand and receive substitute tolls;
- prevent vehicles from continuing their journey by taking appropriate measures (e.g. wheel clamps, removal of vehicle documents);
- take measures to initiate administrative penal proceedings and receive a provisional security deposit on behalf of the authorities.
