GO toll works internationally

How to pay tolls in several countries with the same On-Board Unit (OBU)

In the future, the EETS (European Electronic Toll Service) shall enable you to pay tolls in all EU countries, using only a single on-board unit and contract.

This requires the on-board unit to be compatible with the various toll systems in place across Europe. Austria uses microwave technology, based on DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication), but other countries use satellite-based toll systems, for example, so called GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System).

TOLL2GO is a joint service provided by ASFINAG and Toll Collect, the toll system operator in Germany. With TOLL2GO, GO toll can be paid in Austria via the Toll Collect On-Board Unit.

TOLL2GO represents a further step toward a cross-system, transnational toll service. Now, for the first time, interoperability has been established between a microwave-based and a satellite-supported toll system.

It has been possible to use emotach (previously TRIPON), the Swiss on-board device, to pay tolls in both Switzerland and Austria ever since the Austrian toll system was introduced on 1 January 2004.

The EasyGo+ service means you can use a single on-board unit to pay tolls in Austria, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. You just need to register your vehicle with EasyGo+ and you will then receive your unlocked on-board unit, ready for use.
